Architectural shingle is thicker, layered, heavier and rated for higher wind than the flat three-tab shingle that older roofs carry. It is the only shingle we recommend for a Palm Beach County home. The manufacturer's wind rating only holds when the shingle is nailed to the pattern in the instructions, which is why the county inspects the nailing before the roof is finished.
